New Orleans Wright linebacker Andrew Parker came to Austin this weekend with high expectations for his Texas Longhorns official visit. Parker, now on his way back home, said Texas showed him everything he was hoping to see.

“It did meet expectations,” Parker said. “I was just hoping to see where I would fit in the program. Can I see myself there for the next three or four years.”

“It was good. I liked the experience. Austin is a nice city. I had fun out there.”

Parker technically remains committed to Arkansas, but says he will now have a tough decision between the Razorbacks and the Longhorns.

“I really don’t know (which one he’ll choose). I’ll probably have my decision made tomorrow but I probably won’t announce until National Signing Day,” Parker said.

One particular area of the University of Texas that Parker was anxious to see was UT’s computer science department, since that’s the field he’d like to study in college. Parker was impressed with what Texas has to offer in that area.

“It’s one of the top two programs in the nation,” Parker said. “That was a big thing.”

Texas has two linebackers committed in this class in Byron Hobbs and Ayodele Adeoye. The Texas staff stressed to Parker that he would have a chance to play early, something that appeals to him.

“Most of their linebackers are seniors - Gary Johnson and some other guys. They’re going to be leaving next year. I would probably be me, (Adeoye) there, and we would be the oldest guys in the room next year,” Parker said. “I would have an opportunity to play early.”

Once he gets home, Parker plans to spend some time weighing the pros and cons of his two finalists. He’ll discuss his options with those close to him and then come to a final decision.

“I just have to go back and look at who is being sincere, what team is giving me the best opportunity to play early, which program can give me an opportunity to be successful for the next 30 or 40 years of life.”
